Signing at Big Apple Books

I had a fantastic time at Big Apple Books on August 31st 2013 in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Like them on FACEBOOK!!! They’re the best!

Aunt, Mom and Me at Big Apple

Thanks to store owner Rob who was an excellent host and his assistant Blanca who was always aware of whatever any guest seemed to need before they even asked her! What a great team and store filled with amazing books, vinyls, movies, CD’s and even 8 tracks! (Thank you, Rob, for your gifts (awesome vinyls I intend to display)! And, for giving me a discount on the books I purchased a week later after the event!

I want to thank my friends and family for attending and supporting me and to all the loyal customers of Big Apple Books who supported me that day as well! I met one customer who was quite amazing named Ed. He was once a dancer on cruise ships and even had an article written up on him in the paper back in 2003!

Winner of Prize! Local Painter, Rosemary

Rosemary, a local painter, won the free raffle prize giveaway and I loved how my grandmother took over the book table for me so I could chit chat and meet new people. Thanks Gram!

There were some little kids sneaking pieces of candy while I was setting up for the signing and I was having a blast capturing them doing it! What giggles came from them and then me as they realized they were caught. They came in with their mom for books. I love to see young ones being encouraged to read. It made the start of the day wonderful.

The experience was wonderful and I couldn’t have done it without everyone’s support and positivity. Rob, the store owner said my friends and family were warm and kind and that just made me feel proud to be blessed with them in my life. They are great and so were the ones I met in the bookstore that day.

Everyone was fantastic with great life stories to tell.

Thank you again. I am very grateful and look forward to doing this again with all of you!

LM Preston on Writing Downtime…

A Guest Post by LM Preston…

When You’re Not Writing What Do You Do

I find the most inventive places to write. I write on my porch, in my car while on long trips, at my kids sports practices, on little pieces of paper – almost anywhere I can sneak it in.

But when I’m not writing, I’m just as busy. I do in person tours from April-October. I go to Balticon, Comic Con, Faerie Con, Writer’s Conferences, Book Festivals, Middle and High Schools, Libraries, books signings and other events. I also belong to a Critique group, am Vice President of Mid Atlantic Book Publishing Association and Recruiter for Editors & Lit Agents for the Maryland Writer’s Association. And if that doesn’t make you think I’m completely insane, I’m a wife and mom four who’s team mom, who takes my daughter to open mic, who goes to my son’s lacrosse games, who’s a movie addict that goes to the movies every Friday.A sufferer of Wanderlust who escapes on a mini-vacation every couple of months.

The Future Plans of Lindsey R. Sablowski

Guest Post by Lindsey R. Sablowski

First off I want to thank Tina for letting me stop by her blog! Secondly, a huge thank you to the mastermind behind this blog tour and talented author of The Pack-Retribution, Lm Preston.

I think a lot of us wonder about the future.  The future is an interesting thing to think about because after all it is unwritten and changes constantly.

I don’t want to talk about too far ahead in the future because I just can’t wrap my head around that thought, but instead I’ll talk about a coming future.

Where do I see myself in five years?

Five years from now I’d like to be finished with college, have my Bachelor’s, and be starting a family of my own.  I’ve always dreamed of getting married someday, and I’m still hoping for that special guy to be out there somewhere for me. Hopefully five years from now we’ll have found each other.  I’m a firm believer in love and hope… and it would be a dream come true to finally settle down.

As for my writing career, I have no idea if Cursed With Power will take off. However, I do know for a fact that I will still be writing.  Five years from now I might actually be done with the Magicians series, and if that’s the case I’d love to start writing something new.  My current interest would be historical fiction or perhaps an entirely fictional book (with no history in it at all), but years from now I might change my mind on that.  If I’m still writing the series, I really hope that readers are enjoying it.

And who knows… maybe writing will be my full-time job.  If not, though, I hope I’m teaching or editing (yeah I know, editing sounds crazy, but I like to do it) because writing isn’t something I want to keep all to myself… it’s something that should be shared in the world, and I would love nothing more than to share my journey with others and help them reach their dreams.

The Future Plans of Bryna Butler

Guest Post by YA Paranormal Author Bryna Butler

Thanks for having me on the blog today, Christina. I’d also like to give a special shout-out to L.M. Preston, author of The Pack-Retribution. L.M. is the genius behind this week’s whirlwind book tour.

I’ve been asked to update everyone on my future plans for the Midnight Guardian series and other projects. Books 1 through 3 in the series are now available in ebook and paperback at major online bookstores. Book 4, Shadows Rising, is due out later this Fall (tentatively Halloween).

I’m so excited about Shadows Rising. I think it’s the best in the series so far. Keira Ryan’s story continues as she learns more about the prophecy that stands between her and the fall of an ancient evil that is trying to bust through to our world. The shadow creatures, mentioned in Of Sun & Moon, Book 1, make their true debut in Shadows Rising. Here’s the teaser trailer.

I plan to wrap the series by the end of 2013 with a total of six books in all. With Book 4 near release, I feel like I’m saying goodbye already. *sniff, sniff*

But with every closed door, there’s a kitchen window that we completely forgot to shut when we finished with the dishes. My kitchen window is the Ice Wolves Trilogy. I’m currently researching and pre-writing this new project about feuding werewolf packs and the girl that walks the line between them. Set in the small Alaskan town of Eagle River, these novels are sure to be epic. Look for the first one, tentatively titled Werewolf Biology to hit stores in late 2013.

Thanks again to Christina for inviting me to the blog today. Be sure to check out her guest post on my blog, www.brynabutler.com.

Emma Michaels Talks “Mean”

Guest Post by Emma Michaels “The meanest character…”

In the ‘Society of Feathers’ series there is a character named Caleb. The first novel Owlet is being released October 13th and you see a bit of the fall out for things he has done in his lifetime but in the second book Eyrie, you really realize just how cruel a man he is and how he became that way. I would definitely say he is the meanest character I have written up to date but I also believe in creating realistic characters, so there is a reason behind all he does and there is a story to how he became the way he is. He isn’t simply evil, he is a man with a goal and he will do anything he needs to in order to reach that goal, no matter what the sacrifice.

The way that Caleb is mean is more of a cruelty fueled by his own twisted curiosity. He has a need to know how everything works and he doesn’t mind destroying something to see how it was put together and what made it tick. In Owlet we meet people whose lives have been affected by him, but not him just yet. In Eyrie you get to dive a bit deeper and not only hear about him but see it for yourself. He is one of the leaders of the Eyrie, which works as a sort of council, creating laws and upholding them for the safety of all those involved. On the opposite side of the spectrum is Nathaniel, another Eyrie member who is in many ways, Caleb’s truest enemy. Not because he wants to fight Caleb but because Nathaniel stands for everything that stands between Caleb and his end goals.

Owlet will be coming out this October 13th! Stop by www.EmmaMichaels.com to find out more about Caleb and Nathaniel and the young girl caught in the middle of something she never could have seen coming!

Thank you for having me on your blog, to everyone reading and to LM Preston for hosting this wonderful tour! Stop by her Facebook page on September 9th for a chance to join in the party for The Pack – Retribution!  It is going to be a blast!

When Copper Suns Fall…

The Lost Immortals Book One: When Copper Suns Fall
By KaSonndra Leigh

Faris Toulan Interview

The interview works like this: I’m inviting Faris to the present (2012).

Can you introduce yourself to us?

Name’s Faris. Faris Toulan. I’m a Caducean, a demon slayer. There isn’t really much else to say. **Glances at me with a set of intense gray eyes that shimmer inside the irises. I wonder if they’re really gray, or could they be silver** People around you might not understand why my skills are necessary in this day and time, but they will. You’ll be glad you had this interview with me.

In what way are you connected to Chela?

Hmm. **massages the back of his neck as he thinks about this** Our connection is, well…difficult to explain. You see, if I tell you about it, then you’d be at risk. **I’m dying to know what he means. Before I can say anything, he continues.** That means I’d have to take a part of your memories. I can do that, you know. **I suck my breath. Did he just read my mind?** I’ll do anything to protect Chela. Our connection is beyond words.
What can you say about your life?

I told you, there isn’t really much I can say. But I will tell you to be happy with what you’ve got today. Your blue skies, clean air. **he glances toward the window beside us, staring at it a long moment** Are those birds outside? 55 years in the future, that would be in this world after the Tidal Years, there are no birds. They’re gone. Poof. Vanished. You have robots. Big, black, ugly crows with cameras for eyes. They’re looking for me. Or rather, people like me. I’m an outcast according to the new leaders. They blame the Caduceans for what happened in the past: wars, earthquakes, hurricanes. **A distant look clouds his eyes. I want to know what they’re seeing**

What do you think of the present world? (2012)

You’re lucky. Very lucky. See my last answer if you need proof of that.

What’s the strangest thing you’ve seen here so far? Why?

Everything about this world seems strange since the last time I was here. In my world, you get used to seeing dark stuff everywhere. Black waters, black beaches, gray skies. **I wonder what he means, but I’ve learned to be patient with him.** I’ve been here before, you know. How is that possible? I can hear your thoughts so easily. **He smiles, a drop-down-dead-gorgeous smile with one dimple on the left cheek. My cheeks are probably blushing tomato red** You’ll have to read about my story to see how I got here. And your outdated cellereaders crack me up. **He means my cell phone lying on the desk beside us. He’s giving it a look of pure pity. I tell him this is the 4G version of the latest Droid. And I’m kinda mad because I used six months worth of my wages to buy it.** The screen doesn’t have enough pixels. You can’t even read thumb imprints with that thing. Anybody could steal it and use it. **again, he has a point. Sigh sigh**

What’s the most surprising thing you’ve seen here? Why?

As I said, I’ve been here before. But I don’t remember hearing so much laughter. What surprises me is all the happy-smiley people you have here. In the future, smiles are an endangered species. Enjoy them while they last.

If you had a chance to choose between living in our world and in yours, which one would you choose? Why?

The Mirrorlands, that’s what we call your world, and it can’t touch mine. Ours is older than yours. I don’t mean to sound conceited. But it’s true. My world Bardonia is on the other side of the doorway. It’s parallel to this world. The skies are clear. The waters are sapphire blue and jade green in some places. There’s even this island where the waterfalls flow toward the sky. No pollution. No disease from contaminated waters. So tell me. Which one would you choose? **Does he even need to ask?**

Can you name one thing, event or custom that reminds you of your world?

Bonding. That type of connection Chela has with me, it’s the same way at home. But the thing is I’m not at home. I can’t go back to Bardonia. I’m exiled, cursed to live in the mirrorlands. And not a pretty little place like your 2012 world. In the future, I’m hunted like an animal by the humans. And targeted by our enemies, the Tainted. I guess the answer could be violence, too. That really hasn’t changed much over time. **he sighs deeply, lowers his head, and stays quiet**

C I N 2 Available!!!

Traitor C I N 2

Mystery Smiles by Hilary Gallagher

Hello Everyone! I have a release date for you ;o) It will be announced during the online Night Owl Reviews author chat on March 26th. Along with the release date three winners will receive an autographed pre-release copy of C I N 2.So make sure you log on and sign up! (I’ll post again when it gets closer!)

I’ve had a hard time with the book’s line up. Originally book two “Get Lost” was going to be released. Unfortunately, I am having an internal struggle [problem] with this. Instead I’ve decided to go with Traitor (originally book 5) which is a bit intense–I hope you’re ready for it ;o) In this book you will find the answers to what makes Pig the way he is, where Aunt Millie goes at sunset each day, why Ally’s hair went from red to blond, what C I N originally meant  and Traitor will bring to light some new things as well leaving you with even more questions ;o)

Anyhow, until March 26th, I’ve pasted the synopsis and first chapter told from the viewpoint of Alex Moody. I hope you like it!
Synopsis:
Lisa thinks she knows everything about her new life. She can deal with the boundaries and even being torn away from her family. But Alex withheld more than she ever expected. Like, what happens when you lose control? How about when you begin to realize just how trapped you are? He leaves out a lot of stuff about himself too. He doesn’t mention the dangers of some of the others—or of what she herself can do…

Part One
Alex Moody

-1-

Lisa lay across my lap as she scratched under Rat’s chin. He purred and kneaded his paws into my shirt. “Get that ugly cat off my bed.” I hid my face behind a Scott Westerfeld novel.

“If he goes then so do I,” Lisa decided, tugging at the corners of my book. “Is that what you want?”  I touched a strand of her black hair. It was soft and silky—just like her flesh.

“Sometimes I’d like to be able to breathe.” I held back a grin. Really, I would. She was always around.

“In that case,” she sat up, “Rat and I will be going.” Lisa snatched her Himalayan cat and headed for the door. I grabbed her around the waist.
“I changed my mind.” I whispered in her ear. She giggled, falling backwards.

“Alex,” she sighed, “This is getting too intense. “I think you and I need some space.”

“Oh do you now?”

“Don’t you think that would help us out?” Her fingers intertwined with mine. “A little down time might give you a break from my new found neediness. I’ve never been like this before in my life I swear!”

“I can barely breathe without you, Lisa.” She couldn’t get away from me even if she tried.

“I hate when you say things like that.” She complained, tightening her grip. (That’s because it made her want me even more.)

“Why?” I smiled. It was almost easy to forget her faults when she pouted.

“Don’t play dumb, Alex.”

“Lisa, Lisa, Lisa.” I cradled her in my arms. Rat hissed, wriggling free. He flicked his tail and disappeared from sight. She was warm and I liked that she still trembled whenever I touched her.

She laughed, tossing her head back. “This is the smallest room on campus. It barely holds a bed.”

“I like it like this. Then there’s only one place for you to sit.”

“What, in your lap?” She rolled her eyes, resisting me.  “Sometimes you make me mad.”

“Good, I like it when you’re feisty.” I bit her on the neck. She squealed, bending forward.

“Why can’t we close the door?” She smelled like Vanilla. I wanted to explore her even more.

“Because I don’t trust you,” she admitted. “I’m not like the groupies.”

I pulled away.

“Sorry, but I’m not.”

“I never said you were, Lisa.” Too bad you weren’t though…

“Listen, Alex.” She placed her hand on my heart. Her thoughts invaded my mind.  She loved me. I was hers’. “Don’t you understand?” She asked.  I hated when she pushed her thoughts into my mind. It was one thing when I wanted to know what she thought—it was another when I didn’t.

I hated to admit it but I made a mistake. My emotions got the better of me when I changed Lisa. Why didn’t I let her go; leave Lynn with her mother when she had the chance? Now, I’d imprisoned here with me. Her life was fragile and any hope for her survival—

“Alex,” my sister, Ally, banged her fist on the open door, “It’s time to go.” Her hair used to be red but now it was long and blonde—nearly white—just like mine. Her eyes were about as pale as mine these days too. Rarely did I enjoy being interrupted to help Ally. But, today, I wanted nothing more than to get as far away from Lisa as possible.

“What are you guys going to do?” Lisa questioned, jumping up.

“We’re going to sift through some old boxes.” Ally answered. “Is that the same shirt you wore yesterday, Lisa?” She rolled her eyes, “That’s gross. There’re a million shirts in our room. You could change your clothes every once in a while.”

“You act like I can stink.” Lisa laughed. She loved the fact that when she was hit by lightning her sweat glands no longer emitted an odor.

“It’s about proper hygiene.” Ally argued. “Do you think Alex wants to see you in the same shirt every day? Do you even change your undergarments?”

“Of course I do!” Lisa frowned. “What’s your problem anyway?”

“I don’t have a problem.” Ally narrowed her eyes. “Alex, let’s go.”

“Let me get my shoes.” Lisa dug under the bed. “I’ll be ready in just a minute.”

“Please don’t tell me you invited her to help us.” Ally groaned. I shook my head.

“Lisa doesn’t want to come with us. You told me you were going to hang with Donna today, right?” Maybe she’d get the hint.

“Well, I want to be with you, Alex.” Her hands rested on my hips. “Don’t you want me to come?”

No. I don’t want you to come. Can’t you take a hint?

Lisa jerked back. She’d heard my thoughts. (Another thing the lightning gave her—great.) “Fine, that’s all you had to say.” She brushed past us and stood at the stairwell. “I can’t believe you lately. You’re acting weird.”

“She’s getting annoying—almost worse than Donna.” Ally said under her breath.  “If she’s this annoying now what will she be like in ten years—or a hundred?”

“Stop it,” I ordered, motioning for her to leave. “I think I’m going to move back home. I need more space.”

“Does this ‘space’ have a name?” Ally teased, racing ahead. “Why don’t you call it what it is?”

I ignored her. There was nothing I could do now. This was my fault.

“I used to like Lisa too before she started transforming.” Ally led me out the front entrance of the C I N boarding school. We headed around the lake towards our little shack. We needed to hide some very crucial evidence of our past from a very meddlesome girl. She never stopped. It was an invasion of Lisa all the time. She was in your thoughts, in your stuff, in your heart, in…

“Stop picking on her,” I said. (Ally was right though—she had become annoying.)

“Why?” Ally pouted, “Because she’s the only person you can touch without being in excruciating pain?”

I froze. “Don’t make this a bad thing.” That wasn’t the only reason I liked Lisa.

“You don’t really love her, Alex. You should’ve let her and Michael have each other. Why are you doing this to yourself?”

“I do care for her—a lot.”

“But, not the way you did for—”

“Shut up!” I screamed. Why did she have to bring up the past?

“It’s the truth,” Ally shrugged, “Isn’t that why we’re doing this?”

“Doing what?”

Ally and I twirled around. Lisa stood behind us. Tears brimmed in her eyes.

“Who do you really love, Alex?” Lisa’s bottom lip trembled. “I thought you couldn’t touch anyone besides me? I thought you never felt the way you feel about me before? I don’t understand. You said there was never anyone else. Who or what are you hiding from me? You think I’m annoying now?”

“Lisa,” I tried to speak. Words were never my thing. It wasn’t that I didn’t care about her. I knew I desired her but was I in love? Plus, which question did she want me to answer anyhow?

“Answer me, Alex.” Lisa wiped away a stray tear. Which question Lisa?

“And say what?” I shouted. “Go back to school and leave us alone!”

Lightning crackled in the sky above. Donna and Big Mike sat on a bench by the school’s entrance.  They raced inside. From the other side of the lake I could hear the sound of the door slam shut.

Dark clouds covered the skies. Lisa glanced at them. Before she would’ve raced away too—frightened at what I could do.  Instead, today, she stepped forward, ready to fight. “Why are you threatening me?” She asked.

“I want you to go home.”

“This isn’t my home!” She cried, “I’m your stupid prisoner, remember? A girl you thought you liked but now are getting tired of. Besides, that lightning crap won’t work on me now. You can’t tell me to ‘hurry on home’ anymore.”

“Stop acting like a twelve year old.” Ally said, hands on hips. “He’s not tired of you. I’m not tired of you either. Sometimes you’re just a bit clingy and nosy. Give us a break already. We went from having no one to you—who happens to be in our face all the time.

“I thought you said you wanted me to know all about you?” Her eyes set on mine.

I stared at the ground. Little red ants climbed over my bare feet. If they were biting me I couldn’t tell. I just wanted her to shut up and leave. Everything she said started to sound like garbled static.

“Alex!” Lisa yelled. Her fingers twitched, sparks generated then electrical currents shot from her fingertips disintegrating a tiny anthill between us. I frowned at the pile of ash.

“That was mean.” I announced, turning my back to her. “Go home before you lose control and kill something else.”

“What’s the big deal if I do?” Lisa wouldn’t budge. This wasn’t normal. Had she already begun transforming? Panic raced through me. It usually took over a hundred years to transform. If she kept changing at this rate there was no telling whether she’d survive.

“Do you want to kill someone?” Ally questioned, invading Lisa’s personal space. That just screamed ‘bad idea’.

“Ally,” I warned.

“No,” Ally refused. Lisa wants to see what will happen. I think it’s time she got to see what happens to her when she loses it.”

“Stop,” I began. “We don’t know how much she can handle yet.”
Lisa’s hair rose and so did Ally’s. Sparks flew from their fingertips and the sky rumbled above us. The grass below them blackened turning to smut.

“I can’t control her, Ally.” I reminded her.

“So what, I know what will happen in the end to her.” Ally’s eyes danced.

My feet stood frozen in place. Lisa was more powerful than Ally and I combined. She petrified me. Electrical currents beyond anything Reginald ever measured in Ally or me were alive in Lisa. It was as if she weren’t human anymore. Each day she changed more and more. Her powers were going to overtake her soon. The last person who lost control ended up killing—

“Calm down!” I stood between them. Pig growled, tugging on Ally’s pant leg. Lisa grinned, picking her Boston terrier up. He kissed her face and narrowed his bug eyes at Ally.

“Why didn’t you just let me go away with my mom? Why’d you have to trap me?” Lisa cried. “I thought you guys wanted me around. Now I’ve got to stay here with people who hate me!” She raced through the tall grass around the lake towards C I N. She didn’t look back. My heart pounded and every fiber in my being yearned for her touch.

I kicked the pile of ash (that was once an anthill) and called out, “I hate you!”

“A little dramatic, don’t you think?” Ally grumbled, “She’s not that bad.”

“I don’t hate Lisa.” I told her.

Ally’s eyes widened. “You don’t mean—”

I took off, running as fast as I could. I needed to get away from my sister, from Lisa, from everyone. This is why I liked living alone; too much drama, too much talking, too much of everything.

“Alex!” My sister chased after me. Lightning crackled above us. “Don’t push me away again!” Her words stung. “What are you running from? It wasn’t your fault. You’re not the one who is to blame!”

What was I running from? How about the fact that I’d fallen into the same trap again? This time, though, I was falling for someone even worse than Amie. And, what did Ally know? It was my fault; all of it was.
