Maniac Magee

Maniac Magee was written by Jerry Spinelli. He was one of my favorite writers as a child and to this day-I can read one of his intermediate/young adult books from beginning to end as if it were a movie. You will laugh, cry and get angry! My favorite of his has to be Newberry awarded Maniac Magee.

Plot:

Maniac Magee is an orphan who cannot take his aunt and uncle’s hate for each other. One day, he runs and runs and runs… right into Two Mills. Here he meets a wide range of characters, defeats many odds and by the end of the book, has won your heart

Overall Satisfaction Rating:

5 out of 5 stars -there isn’t a moment where you think, ‘let me get a drink’; you simply cannot put this book down.

Pros:

A book the entire family can enjoy, a fantastic ending, a book about acceptance and vivid descriptions that last with you for a lifetime.

Cons:

You sure wish he would’ve made a part two…

Books I also recommend by Jerry Spinelli:

1. Stargirl
2. Love, Stargirl
3. Report to The Principal’s Office!
4. Do The Funky Pickle
5. Wringer
6. There’s A Girl In My Hammerlock
